How to apply for electricity (TNB) & water (PBA) for your new place in Penang, Malaysia

Just got a few chores done today and submitted the application for water and electricity supply for my new place, so thought I would share how to get it done online for those of you who are newbies just like me, getting it ready for your new crib.

Application for new electricity meter from TNB, Penang MALAYSIA

1. Prepare the following documents. A lot of time is usually wasted not having the correct documents ready:

a. Photocopy of sales and purchase agreement
b. Photocopy of I/C of owner (must be listed in the sales and purchase agreement)
c. Setem hasil RM10 (can be obtained at the nearest Post Office)
d. Details (full name, IC number, contact number) of a next-of-kin
e. Deposit equivalent to 2 months' electricity bill (mine was RM480)

2. Just bring the following to the nearest TNB office (mine was at Anson Road beside KDU. Bear in mind the parking beside is a flat RM3, so you don't want to be going in and out because you have forgotten to prepare the documents needed) and pass the details to the officer in charge at the front desk. Once the details are filled in the application form, you will be directed to the cashier to pay the deposit amount. Do bear in mind that they only accept cash or cheque. I was told that the TNB technician will drop by my place within the next 7 working days and get my electricity meter up and running.

Application for new water meter from PBA, Penang MALAYSIA

1. Prepare the following documents. A lot of time is usually wasted not having the correct documents ready:

a. Photocopy of sales and purchase agreement
b. Photocopy of I/C of owner (must be listed in the sales and purchase agreement)
c. Setem hasil RM10 (can be obtained at the nearest Post Office)
d. Deposit (mine was RM240)

2. Quite an identical process as registering for a new electricity meter, just bring the following to the nearest PBA office and pass the details to the officer in charge at the front desk. Once the details are filled in the application form, you will be directed to the cashier to pay the deposit amount. Do bear in mind that they only accept cash or cheque. For PBA, they have provided me with a SLA of 3 working days.

Hope this was helpful - congratulations on getting your crib and have fun getting a headache with all the many bills to come :-)
